
German Shepherds of Kansas City’s Shepherds are from a Working line of Shutzhund’s, and are not meant to be show dogs.
The German Shepherd Dog originated in 1899 in Germany due to the efforts of Captain Max von Stephanitz and others. They are a descendant of the old breeds of herding and farm dogs. German Shepherds are known to be the world’s leading breed for police forces, service dogs and the military. Not only that, Shepherds are also consistently one of the most popular breed of dogs, according to the AKC , and they are a loving and loyal family dog. German Shepherds are also loyal, courageous and fearless companions, no doubt why they are chosen to be police and military service-dogs.
Working lines of Shepherds are used for scent-work roles, such as: search and rescue, drug detection, and explosive detection. They are great at tracking and have a strong sense of smell. In the miltary they are used to patrol areas and warn soldiers of enemies, or traps. They also make great service dogs because they are smart, loyal and have a strong sense of duty.
German Shepherds are placed in the Herding Group by the AKC, and German Shepherds of Kansas City’s are bred from working dog lines. GS of KC’s dogs are not meant to be show dogs, they are meant to be loving and loyal companions, whether for a family, police force, or any other agency in need of a loyal and courageous companion. German Shepherds range from 22 to 26 inches at the shoulder and are classified as a large-breed dog.
According to the AKC website. German Shepherds have been ranked second most popular breed since 2010.
